Athens is one of the most historical and beautiful cities in the world.

Here are some of the places you should not miss during your visit to the Congress:

The Archaeological site of Acropolis: The greatest and finest sanctuary of ancient Athens, dedicated primarily to its patron, the goddess Athena which dominates the centre of the modern city from the rocky crag. In the second half of the fifth century bc, Athens, following the victory against the Persians and the establishment of democracy, transformed the hill into a unique monument of thought and arts. The most important monuments built during that time were Parthenon, Erechtheion, Propylaea and the small temple Athena Nike.

Museum of Acropolis: The museum is devoted to the Parthenon, its surrounding temples, and the findings of the archaeological site. The museum is framed by olive trees and propped up by concrete pillars, revealing the site’s archaeological excavation below. The new Acropolis Museum opened in 2009 and is consistently rated as one of the best museums in the world.

Agora: Set on gently sloping ground northwest of the acropolis, the Agora public square was laid out in the 6th century BC. The Agora was the center of the athletic, artistic, spiritual and political life in the city. It is the place where democracy was born. Once a year the Athenians gathered in the Agora and took a simple vote: is anyone aiming at a tyranny, is anyone a threat to the democracy?
